Project Description

MEnD were engaged by the National Capital Authority for the specialist façade remediation of the National Carillon. The National Carillon is a historically significant bell tower housing 57 bells on Queen Elizabeth II Island opened in 1970.

Solution Execution

• Petrography analysis and design of heritage render to match existing. 

• Breakout of existing render and panel facades to make concrete repairs. 

• Installation of heritage render finish. 

• Defect inspection and testing of existing panels. 

• Hazardous material management. 

• Replace all external panel joint sealants. 

• Roof drainage system replacement. 

• Glazing replacement. 

• Supply and install bird deterrent system. 

• Apply protective coating to external face of ferrocement cladding panels. 

• Create and capture data using 3D modelling for defect tagging, repairs, reporting, compliance and quality assurance.
