Concrete Durability Investigation
Project Details
Category: Mining
Client: Rio Tinto
Asset: concrete assets across 11 mine sites
Location: Western Australia
Project Description
Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) engaged MEnD to provide strategic asset management and condition auditing services for several fixed plant (FP) concrete assets across 11 mine sites in the Pilbara region. MEnD provided these services to ultimately develop future preventive maintenance and inspection strategies for RTIO leading to a lower total maintenance operational expenditure (OPEX) liability over the life of the assets.
Solution Execution
- Perform a desktop review and failure modes study on a risk-based approach to further understand the condition of the FP concrete assets and to develop a detailed inspection methodology.
- Conduct site walkthroughs across all 11 mine sites in order to visually inspect all FP concrete assets.
- Report on the overall condition of all inspected assets and assess all failure modes inspected onsite to provide a high-level maintenance and inspection strategy brief.
- Provide a baseline testing scope for all assets, and high-level budget estimates including cost, timing, and resourcing to undertake the onsite inspection works.
