Project Details
Category: Marine
Client: Flinders Ports pty ltd
Asset: berths, dolphins and navigation aids
Location: South Australia
Project Description
MEnD was engaged by Flinders Ports Pty Ltd to conduct annual asset inspections across various assets in South Australia. These assets included berths, dolphins and navigation aids, with the scope limited to coating inspections of the steel components.
The objectives of the project were to assess the overall condition, identify key defects requiring repair, and determine the extent of repair works and budget estimates needed to complete the works.
Solution Execution
- Visual inspection of coated steel structural elements, including wingwalls, ladders, sheet pile walls, pile, struts and navigation aids.
- Dry Film Thickness (DFT) testing at representative location across elements to determine coating thickness.
- Quantification and tagging of defect locations using ArcGIS.
- Preparation of summary reports presenting key findings from the inspections, including recommendations for remediation and budget estimates.
- Project variation to include capturing of several berth faces to produce an orthomosaic model of the berths, which were added to the existing ArcGIS platform to facilitate inspection and monitoring.
