Project Description
MEnD was engaged by Stantec to conduct a condition assessment of the preliminary treatment areas (PTA) at the Pimpama and Merrimac Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), QLD.
The aim of the assessment was to inform the current condition of the reinforced concrete, estimate remaining useful life (based on estimated time to major maintenance) and make recommendations to extend the service life of the assets.
Solution Execution
- Visual inspection of all accessible external reinforced concrete components.
- Cover meter survey using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at multiple locations both for Pimpama and Merrimac.
- Rebound hammer testing at four external locations per site on the PTA structures to determine indicative strength.
- Breakout survey to assess the condition of the steel reinforcement.
- Secure multiple cores and conduct the following tests:
- Petrographic analysis at Duratec’s NATA certified laboratory in accordance with ASTM C856.
- Compressive strength testing at a NATA certified laboratory in accordance with AS 1012.14.
