Newstead Wharf Cathodic Protection Refurbishment

Newstead Wharf Cathodic Protection Refurbishment

Project Details

Category: Marine
Client: Brisbane City Council
Asset: Newstead Wharf
Location: Queensland

Project Description

The Newstead Wharf consists of a sheet pile wall approximately 205m in length and supported by 230 concrete encased steel piles. An impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system was installed in 2009 to provide protection to the sheet pile wall and piles but was understood to be in an unsafe operational condition. MEnD was engaged to carry out refurbishment work to the CP system and reinstate the damaged pile encasement system.

Solution Execution

  • Replacement of 18 damaged anodes.
  • Design of an alternate anode suspension method to mitigate damage to the anode.
  • Identification of concrete defects to wharf concrete elements for client’s
    budgeting purposes.
  • Reinstatement of damaged pile encasement using Denso Seashield 500 series.
